I’m a First Time Grandpa!

January 9th, 2008 Posted in Personal | 5 Comments »

It’s a boy! Yesterday at about 2:12 pm, Irma and myself became first time grandparents as our daughter gave birth to a healthy baby boy. His name is Andrew Joseph Ruguone, named after his father, uncle and great grandfather. He weighed in at 8 lbs., 5 ounces and is 21 inches long. Baby Andrew is perfectly healthy and gorgeous.

I have included a few pictures below but will upload more later to my Flickr account. Both mom and baby should be coming today. With no further ado, I introduce to you Andrew Ruguone.

Taking Next Week Off - What Will I Do?

December 21st, 2007 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

All client work is finished for the year so we are taking next week off. What will I do with myself? While it would be nice to get out of town, that is next to impossible as my daughter is due to give birth to our first grandson any day now. One thing is for sure - I will try to stay away from the computer. My body and eyes need a rest from sitting in front of a monitor 9 plus hours a day. I’ll probably spend 1 -2 hours each day monitoring email, catching up on RSS feeds and following my Twitter friends. But what to do with the rest of the time?

Disneyland Updates: First New Monorail Car Arrives at Disneyland

December 21st, 2007 Posted in All Things Disney | 1 Comment »

The OCRegister reports that the first new monorail car in two decades slid onto the Disneyland track on Thursday as the theme park prepares for guests to ride it starting in late February. Starting Monday, five flat-bed trucks transported five cars of the first redesigned train from Vancouver, Canada, where they were built. Crews ripped off white shrink wrap, which made the cars look like a Space Shuttle, and took about an hour and 15 minutes for a crane to hoist the nose of the first red-striped train to the parking area.

Disneyland Updates: Christmas Time at Disneyland Resort

December 18th, 2007 Posted in All Things Disney | No Comments »

Each holiday season, the Disneyland Resort goes all out in decorations and special events to amaze and delight guests. MousePlanet staff photographer Frank Anzalone visited the Resort on December 15 and took a number of photographs - in fact, four pages of them. If you can’t have a Disney Christmas this year (like me), then you are sure to enjoy the photos Frank took.

Check out all four pages. One of my favorites is below - A rare view inside the Lilly Belle luxury car which is part of the Disneyland Railroad.

So Glad I Don’t Work in Corporate World

December 17th, 2007 Posted in Food and Beverage, Funny Stuff | 2 Comments »

The following is a humorous and somewhat exaggerated look at typical corporate policy. However with some corporate environments, this is not far off. Makes me happy that I work for a small company where I am the head honcho. Enjoy!

Cat Wigs?

December 2nd, 2007 Posted in Funny Stuff | No Comments »

This is just so wrong. Poor cat.

Cat wigs

I’ve heard of pet clothes but wigs for cats? Sadly, it is true. You can buy this wig for $50 as well as three other colors from Kitty Wigs. I wonder how they stay on as my cat would strongly protest and have it off in seconds. ;)

Cyber Bullying On the Rise

November 29th, 2007 Posted in Life Issues | No Comments »

I ran across this story at WebProNews - it appears that there is a lot of cyber bullying going on these days. In other words, bullies pushing their weight around as usual, but doing so online. Now, bullies have always been around. I was bullied myself up to the first grade when I finally decided to stick up for myself. After that, I was bullied no more. The fact that bullies have moved to the online front is interesting to say the least.

An excerpt from the WebProNews story:

Around two-thirds of children who say they have been bullied online have not received any previous form of harassment according to research from the University of California at Riverside published in the Journal of Adolescent Health.

“Internet bullying has emerged as a new and growing form of social cruelty,” Kirk Williams and Nancy Guerra of the University of California wrote in the report. The researchers said that schools and parents need to work together to prevent such behavior without depriving children and teens of Internet access.

My Top 10 All-Time Favorite Movies List

November 28th, 2007 Posted in Hobbies and Interests | 1 Comment »

It is difficult to pick just ten from all the great movies that have ever been made, but here is my current top ten list.

1. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman.

2. Les Misérables (1998) - Liam Neeson, Geoffrey Rush & Uma Thurman.

3. Braveheart (1995) - Mel Gibson

4. As Good as It Gets (1997) - Jack Nicholson, Helen Hunt, Greg Kinnear & Cuba Gooding Jr.

5. O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) - George Clooney, John Turturro & Tim Blake Nelson.

6. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) - Jack Nicholson

7. Return To Me (2000) - David Duchovny, Minnie Driver, & Carroll O’Connor

8. Chocolat (2000) - Juliette Binoche & Johhny Depp

9. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (1967) - Clint Eastwood & Lee Van Cleef

10. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring , The Two Towers & The Return of the King (2001-2003) - Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Cate Blanchett & others

That was difficult as I feel I excluded so many good movies. Maybe I’ll have to organize them into categories next time (i.e. drama, comedy, action, thrillers, etc.)

Happy Thanksgiving - What I am Thankful For This Year

November 22nd, 2007 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

Just wanted to wish everyone in the United States a Happy Thanksgiving. Before family and friends arrive later for feasting and football, I want to reflect on what I am thankful for this year.

I am thankful for the following…

Kids Want Everything Their Parents Have - Now!

November 11th, 2007 Posted in Personal | No Comments »

I don’t always understand the logic of today’s youth. They get out on their own, out from underneath mom and dad’s wings and they feel they have to have everything their parents have right away. A new car, fancy apartment, buying stuff on eBay, going out to eat all the time… the list goes on. The credit card companies help them to accomplish this. The problem is that most young people lack the foresight to see the consequences of living beyond their means.

They want large televisions, the fastest new computers, the fanciest cell phones, new cars, and of course have to have high speed Internet and cable TV. The problem is, they can’t afford this type of lifestyle. However, that doesn’t seem to stop them. “Just put it on credit,” seems to be the motto. Take Dell for example who frequently advertises that you can have a new computer for as little as $20 - $30 a month. This is true in part but what is not revealed is that the $20 - $30 one pays monthly does not touch the actual balance owed on that computer. In fact, it often does not even cover all the interest earned that period. The result - a debt that continues to grow thanks to finance charges.
